Impact of climate change on UK air transport
How climate change will affect aircraft and airports and the future impacts of air travel
http://www.imperial.ac.uk/research/transport
This project seeks to identify the possible impacts of climate change for UK aviation and the feedback mechanisms involved. Tamara Pejovic is undertaking the research at Imperial College London, under the supervision of Dr Robert Noland and Dr Ralf Toumi. This is an interdisciplinary approach, bringing together the Centre for Transport Studies and the Space and Atmospheric Physics group.
In this project, we aim to get quantitative answers to the following questions:
1. What impact will changes in the future wind field have on CO2 emissions by aircraft?
2. What impact will changes in future temperature and relative humidity have on the probability of contrail formation?
3. What impact will changes in severe weather patterns have on the operation of current and proposed airports?
4. What are the other relevant climate variables that can effect future CO2 emissions?
